The Abia State Government has announced growing interest from Turkish investors across several sectors of the state’s economy, including agriculture, textiles, furniture, manufacturing, renewable energy, and construction.

This was revealed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment Promotion and Public-Private Partnership, Jerome Green-Amakwe, during a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, organised in partnership with Vega Growing Global Group.

Green-Amakwe disclosed that no fewer than 40 Turkish investors have confirmed participation in the forthcoming Abia–Turkiye Investment Summit and Product Exhibition, scheduled to take place in late November in Umuahia, the state capital. The summit, themed “Bridging Continents, Unlocking Prosperity,” is being organised by the Abia State Government through the Ministry of Trade and Commerce.

“We are proud and excited that over 40 Turkish investors are coming for this programme,” Green-Amakwe said. “They are showing strong interest in agriculture, textiles, furniture, manufacturing, renewable energy, and construction — with investments worth several millions of dollars, translating into billions of naira.”

He further disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Vega Growing Global Enterprise to guarantee the success of the international summit and exhibition.

Green-Amakwe, who also chairs the TURAB 2025 Steering Committee, explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment in Abia State. He noted that the summit would explore opportunities in key sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, textiles, fashion, tourism, leatherworks, energy, infrastructure, trade, and logistics.

“Our goal is to strengthen bilateral relations between Turkey, Abia, and Nigeria while showcasing products and services to the African market,” he said. “The event will also facilitate business-to-business engagements connecting investors, exporters, and local enterprises to foster trade cooperation and joint ventures.”

He added that the organisers are collaborating with Chambers of Commerce across Lagos, Kano, and Abuja to ensure wide participation.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Dr. Salome Obiukwu, reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to leverage the summit to drive economic transformation and industrial growth.

“Under Dr. Alex Otti’s leadership, we are fully committed to building a vibrant economy that empowers our people,” Obiukwu stated. “Abia is open for business, ready for investment, and determined to lead as the preferred destination for trade and innovation.”

The Managing Director of Vega Growing Global, Eniola Ojajuni, praised the Otti administration for improving infrastructure and positioning Abia as a top investment hub in the South-East.

Similarly, John Onyemachi, Director of Projects at Vega Group, highlighted that Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) would also benefit from the summit. According to him, part of the plan is to revive dormant industries through technical partnerships and technology transfer between Turkish investors and local operators.

“They’re not just coming to establish new industries but also to help breathe life into moribund ones,” Onyemachi explained. “Through these collaborations, they’ll provide technical expertise, funding, and training to strengthen local capacity and promote sustainable growth.”
