Anambra State, led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has emerged as the top-performing state in Nigeria in the 2025 BudgIT State of States Fiscal Performance Ranking.

According to the report released by BudgIT, Anambra ranked first ahead of Lagos, Kwara, Abia, and Edo states recognized for their strong commitment to fiscal transparency and accountability.

The latest ranking also showed significant improvements among several states. Akwa Ibom rose from 27th to 10th place, while Zamfara climbed from 26th to 17th. Meanwhile, Plateau, Kogi, Jigawa, Benue, and Yobe occupied the bottom five positions.

Anambra’s top rating has been attributed to Governor Soludo’s sweeping reforms in financial management, innovative revenue generation, and prudent spending practices. His administration’s focus on transparency and efficiency has earned national recognition.

Governor Soludo’s transformation agenda has also seen major infrastructural and social improvements across the state. His government has constructed roads, flyovers, and drainage systems, while transforming urban areas like Okpoko into model communities. The newly built Anambra Government House—dubbed a “mini-city”—stands as a symbol of his development vision.

In education, the Soludo administration has introduced free schooling, built smart schools, recruited over 8,000 new teachers, and revitalized tertiary institutions. The health sector has recorded the construction of five new general hospitals, renovation of existing facilities, and the introduction of telemedicine and free maternal healthcare.

The state’s security framework has also been strengthened through the Anambra Homeland Security Law, which established the Agunechemba security network and the Operation Udo Ga-Achi task force—both credited with reducing crime significantly.

Governor Soludo’s emphasis on human capital development has led to thousands of youths being trained in digital skills, while the state’s governance systems have been fully digitalized.

These achievements have earned him multiple national honors, including the Vanguard Newspaper Governor of the Year 2025 (Good Governance), The Sun Governor of the Year 2024, and Independent Newspaper Governor of the Year 2024 (Urban Renewal) awards.

He was also ranked Nigeria’s Best Performing Governor in Primary Healthcare Delivery for 2024, placing first both in the Southeast and nationally.

Observers have praised the governor’s leadership and anticipate even greater progress as Anambra continues to set the pace in fiscal and developmental governance.
