As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for unity among its members to ensure victory for President Bola Tinubu and the party at all levels.

The state chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin, made the call on Sunday in Akure while addressing party members. He said the APC had continued to attract new members due to the positive performance of the Tinubu administration, emphasizing that unity, discipline, and hard work were essential to consolidate the party’s growing strength.

Adetimehin’s remarks came two days after he officially received hundreds of defectors from the Action Alliance (AA), led by the party’s state chairman, Comrade Alfred Akinuli.

According to Adetimehin, the Ondo APC remains strong, well-organized, and capable of accommodating a large membership without internal crisis. “Our party has the capacity to absorb as many members as possible because we already have a tested structure for running it,” he said. “What we need most now is unity and dedication to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027.”

He added, “We are a people-oriented party. Politics is played at the polling unit level, and any leader who cannot deliver his unit has no moral ground to lead. True leadership begins with winning your unit.”

In his remarks, Akinuli said the mass defection from the Action Alliance was driven by the collective decision to align with President Tinubu’s progressive agenda and contribute to national development through the ruling party.

He explained that the defectors included two former state chairmen of the AA, several local government chairmen, and a former deputy governorship candidate, all of whom made the move after extensive consultations.

“We joined the APC because we believe this is the right time to move forward in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akinuli said. “We want to work with the progressives and ensure our efforts translate into victory rather than wasting votes in the opposition.”

He described the APC as “a progressive and well-structured party” and assured that the new members were ready to contribute meaningfully to its success in 2027.

In recent months, Ondo State has witnessed a wave of defections to the APC from various opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Among the notable defectors is the member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Festus Akingbaso, who recently left the PDP for the APC.
