The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a music artist, Godspower George Osahenrumwen, popularly known as Steady Boy, for allegedly attempting to collect a shipment of illicit drugs smuggled from the United States on behalf of his manager in Lekki, Lagos.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the 20-year-old singer was apprehended after operatives intercepted a large consignment of Loud concealed in three cartons of bathtubs at the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja. The package had arrived from the U.S. aboard a DHL flight on Tuesday.

Babafemi said, “Steady Boy was arrested at Bougain Villa, Primewater Gardens 2, Freedom Way, Lekki, when he showed up to receive the consignment of 140 bags of Loud weighing 77.20kg for a syndicate involving his manager, Zion Osazee Omigie (also known as Zee Money), who is currently at large.”

In a related operation, NDLEA operatives uncovered a clandestine drug laboratory at Ajao Estate, Lagos, where large quantities of Colorado (synthetic cannabis) were being produced. The agency recovered 16.2kg of freshly processed Colos, 1.7kg of ADB-CHMNACA Cannabinol, 4.5kg of Potassium Carbonate, and 91 litres of Dibromobutane from the site.

Across other states, NDLEA continued its nationwide crackdown on drug traffickers:

In Mushin, Lagos, operatives arrested a 28-year-old dealer, Afeez Salisu (alias Malu), and seized 16.4kg of Ghana Loud and designer Colorado.

Along the Abuja–Jos highway, 84,710 capsules of Tramadol from Onitsha were intercepted, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect in Bauchi.

On the Abuja–Kaduna road, 32,946 bottles of Akuskura, a new psychoactive substance, were confiscated from a 47-year-old suspect.

In Ogun State, three suspects were arrested in Abeokuta with 1,779kg of skunk, while in Edo, two buses carrying 1,455kg of the same drug were intercepted.

NDLEA operatives in Ondo also seized over 3.5 tonnes of skunk in separate operations linked to two suspects.

Additional seizures were made across Taraba, Kwara, and Lagos States, bringing the total quantity of drugs recovered in the recent operations to several tonnes.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), commended the officers for their “resilience, professionalism, and balanced approach” in combating the drug menace. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to dismantling every identified drug syndicate in the country.

According to the NDLEA, it has arrested over 45,853 suspects and secured 9,263 convictions nationwide in the past 30 months, with more than 8.5 million kilograms of illicit substances seized during that period.
