Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North have renewed their demand for the creation of Anioma State, urging the National Assembly to address what they described as a long-standing injustice in Nigeria’s state structure, particularly in the South-East region.

In a statement dated November 3, 2025, and signed by Chief Adizue Eluaka, Chairman of the APC Delta North Senatorial District, the group maintained that the creation of Anioma State is overdue and essential to correcting the geopolitical imbalance that has left the South-East with only five states. Eluaka said the demand reflects the collective will of the Delta North people and aligns with the principles of fairness and national cohesion.

“The APC Delta North Senatorial District fully supports the creation of Anioma State. It represents not only justice for our people but also a strategic step toward a more balanced federation,” Eluaka said, adding that there was unanimous agreement across the district on the issue. He called on the Senate to honour the legacy of Chief Dennis Osadebey and other pioneers who championed the Anioma cause, noting that such a move would enhance unity and administrative balance in the country.

Eluaka also praised Senator Ned Nwoko for leading the latest legislative drive for Anioma State, describing his bill as the most comprehensive state-creation proposal before the National Assembly. He said Nwoko’s initiative, aimed at addressing the South-East’s numerical disadvantage in state distribution, had reignited nationwide support for the Anioma cause.

Recalling the suffering and stigma endured by Anioma people during the civil war due to their Igbo identity, Eluaka said the creation of Anioma State would serve as an act of historical justice and healing. He appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to treat the proposal as a national unification project that embodies equity, inclusion, and the aspirations of the Nigerian people.
