President Bola Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma are among the high-profile guests expected at this year’s annual conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

The two-day event, set for November 12–13 in Abuja, will bring together editors from print, broadcast, online platforms, and news agencies nationwide. In a statement jointly issued by NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the guild confirmed that President Tinubu will officially open the conference at the State House Banquet Hall, while the Sultan and ThisDay Newspapers Chairman Nduka Obaigbena will chair separate sessions.

The conference provides a platform for editors and national leaders to examine issues shaping governance, development, and national unity. This year’s theme is “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” with Governor Uzodimma delivering the keynote address.

A panel discussion will explore the sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.” Other scheduled speakers include retired Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Lucky Irabor, Managing Partner of Awa Kalu & Partners Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), University of Abuja Political Science Head Prof. Sheriff Ibrahim, and Baze University Post-Graduate Dean Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi.

Gen. Irabor will speak on “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities,” while Prof. Kalu will examine “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.” Prof. Ibrahim will discuss “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation,” and Prof. Adeniyi will address “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap.”

The second day will feature an executive session, allowing editors to engage directly with government officials, policymakers, political leaders, and business leaders.
