A socio-political commentator, Charles Ogbu, has criticised the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, over his reported encounter with a military officer identified as Yerima. Ogbu alleged that Wike attempted to use his influence to compel the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to overrule the officer during a confrontation but ended up being embarrassed when the CDS refused to intervene.
According to Ogbu, Wike, in a display of arrogance, phoned the CDS expecting him to instruct the officer to vacate the premises immediately. However, the officer, Yerima, reportedly spoke directly with the CDS and calmly explained the situation, after which the defence chief declined to issue the order Wike anticipated. This, Ogbu claimed, left the minister visibly humiliated as he left the scene.
Ogbu described the incident as a reflection of misplaced pride and a misunderstanding of military procedure, noting that the FCT Minister could have resolved the matter through the proper chain of command rather than resorting to public confrontation. He added that such actions exposed both the minister’s impatience and a disregard for institutional hierarchy.
The analyst further questioned Wike’s expectations, suggesting that it would have been improper for the CDS to bypass established protocol simply to satisfy the minister’s personal interests. He accused Wike of using his office to pursue questionable land revocations and re-allocations, describing the episode as a public lesson in humility.
