The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zone 12 Command in Kano, has recognized a volunteer staff, Mr. Nura Abdullahi, for returning more than N20 million accidentally left behind by a co-passenger in a commercial tricycle.

The Zonal Commander, ACG Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, presented Abdullahi with a commendation letter on Friday, praising his action as “a rare display of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.”

Abiodun-Taiwo explained that Abdullahi discovered the money after a co-passenger, Alhaji Mustafa from Katsina State, mistakenly left his bag in the vehicle. Using the last dialed number on Mustafa’s phone—after briefly lending it to him—Abdullahi traced and returned the funds to their rightful owner.

The commander emphasized the significance of Abdullahi’s honesty, noting that the volunteer, who does not earn a regular salary, could not even boast N20,000 in his account, yet chose to do the right thing.

“Such integrity is rare these days, especially during economic hardship. Nura’s actions make him an exemplary ambassador for his family, the NSCDC, and Nigeria,” Abiodun-Taiwo said. He added that the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, had endorsed the recognition to highlight Abdullahi as a model of integrity within the corps.

The commander urged the public to emulate Abdullahi’s sincerity, stressing that honesty remains invaluable, regardless of circumstances. He assured that Abdullahi would be handsomely rewarded for his conduct.

Abiodun-Taiwo also recalled a similar incident in 2024, when Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama was rewarded N500,000 by the Katsina State Government for returning N748,320 intended for the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme.
