Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency recorded a remarkable milestone on Saturday, November 15, 2025, as Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa awarded full tuition scholarships to 200 students selected from various communities within the constituency.
The transformative event, held at the Dr. Alex Chioma Otti Auditorium in the Ohafia Local Government Headquarters, drew dignitaries, community leaders, parents, and excited beneficiaries.
In his address, Hon. Osonwa expressed delight at witnessing the first cohort of recipients under his Tertiary Education Scholarship Programme. He emphasized that education remains a critical foundation for sustainable development.
“Education is very dear to me. I launched this initiative to give hope to brilliant students who could not further their education due to financial challenges. You excelled in the mock exams, you took the JAMB which I fully sponsored, and today many of you have secured admission into reputable institutions. That is the spirit of excellence,” he said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to funding the tuition of all beneficiaries until graduation, provided they maintain strong academic performance.
Representing the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Sir Martin Emetu commended the lawmaker, describing the scholarship programme as “a true example of people-centered leadership.” He urged the students to remain focused and disciplined as they begin their higher education journey.
The ceremony became emotional as newly selected scholars shared stories of resilience and gratitude. One of them, Miss Eke Treasure Eke, tearfully thanked Hon. Osonwa for giving her renewed hope after years of missing scholarship opportunities.
“This is an opportunity I never thought possible. I am deeply grateful. I pray for strength and success throughout my university years,” she expressed.
Parents also voiced their appreciation. Speaking on behalf of them, Mrs. Kalu—mother of the second overall best candidate—described the gesture as a blessing for families and a testament to genuine representation.
“This is the kind of leadership we prayed for—one that directly impacts lives. This initiative is unprecedented in our constituency. May God continue to strengthen and uplift you,” she said.
The event was graced by several notable figures, including Hon. Mba Kalu Nwoke, represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Nnanna Mensah, along with councillors from Arochukwu and Ohafia LGAs.
Hon. Osonwa’s scholarship initiative has been widely hailed as a strategic investment in the future—one that promises to promote academic excellence and positively transform the socioeconomic outlook of the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
