The National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appointed Godwin Okoye as the Acting Chairman of the Council’s Anambra State chapter, effective immediately.

The appointment letter was presented to Okoye by NYCN National President Sukubo Sokubo, in the presence of the organisation’s National Deputy President, South-East, Innocent Nduanya, and other leaders of youth-based associations.

Okoye assumes leadership of the Anambra State chapter following the impeachment of former chairman Emeka Obi, and will serve in this acting capacity until a substantive chairman is elected in the coming months. The announcement was made by the NYCN Secretariat on Tuesday, in line with the provisions of the NYCN Constitution (2018, amended).

He is expected to immediately take over full administrative duties and manage the affairs of the NYCN in the state, pending further directives from the National Secretariat.

Commenting on the leadership change, Deputy President Nduanya praised the NEC for upholding constitutional discipline and restoring order within the Anambra chapter. He said, “The Council acted strictly within constitutional bounds to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the organisation, especially at a time when NYCN must demonstrate consistency, unity, and transparency in youth leadership. The emergence of Okoye reflects the trust the national body has in his capacity, discipline, and commitment to the council’s ideals.”

Nduanya urged the Acting Chairman to maintain absolute loyalty to the apex body and collaborate with all youth structures across the state to drive developmental programmes.

Receiving his appointment letter in Awka, Okoye thanked the NEC for their confidence, describing the role as both a privilege and a responsibility. He pledged to prioritise unity, reorganisation, and credible youth participation across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.

“I pledge to run an inclusive administration that will strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and restore the vibrancy for which the Anambra NYCN was known,” Okoye said. “My immediate focus is stabilising the chapter, engaging critical youth bodies, and ensuring that all outstanding administrative matters are resolved according to constitutional provisions.”

The new leadership structure is aimed at addressing confirmed acts of insubordination and executive misconduct by the suspended state chairman.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State NYCN chapter reiterated its opposition to any form of tenure elongation for national officers and attempts to alter the constitutionally recognised youth age bracket of 18–35 years. The chapter had previously rejected the proposed Tenure Elongation Congress held in September 2025 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, which sought to extend the youth age limit to 45 years, describing the move as “unconstitutional.”
