The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Labour Party–led administration in the state to emulate the Federal Government’s recent commitment to transparency by publicly disclosing project costs and contract details.

In a statement released in Umuahia, the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Prince Ifeanyi Igwe, Esq., commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government for making public the contract amounts, specifications, and scope of both ongoing and newly approved federal projects nationwide.

Igwe said the move signals a strong dedication to accountability and reinforces public trust, noting that the Federal Executive Council’s approvals of November 6, 2025, reflect a governance style anchored on openness.

He highlighted several major projects featured in the publication, including the 163-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry Coastal Superhighway Section 3 valued at ₦553 billion, the Ota–Idiroko road and flyover project estimated at ₦121 billion, and the revised cost of the 37-kilometre Ijebu Igbo–Etapa–Owoyen Road fixed at ₦53 billion, among others across Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, and Rivers states.

According to Igwe, the Federal Government’s decision to publish contract figures has boosted public confidence and reinforced the principle that governance must remain accountable to citizens.

“This is the level of transparency Abians expect,” he said, calling on the state government to adopt a similar approach to allow residents see the details of awarded projects, their costs, and the contractors handling them.

He argued that with billions invested in development projects in Abia, citizens deserve complete disclosure to ensure funds are properly managed and free from misuse.

Igwe maintained that transparency is a fundamental pillar of democratic governance and urged the state administration to demonstrate the same openness if it claims to be serving the people’s interests.
