British American Tobacco (BAT) Nigeria has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the country’s manufacturing sector, generating over $300 million in export sales between 2022 and 2024, the company announced during the 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

At the three-day event, themed “Nigeria First: Prioritising Patronage of Made in Nigeria,” BAT Nigeria received the Diamond Sponsor Appreciation Award for its long-standing support of industrial growth and local content promotion. The AGM brought together industry leaders, government officials, and business executives, including keynote speaker industrialist Aliko Dangote.

Odiri Erewa-Meggison, Chairman of the MAN Export Promotion Group, received the award on behalf of BAT Nigeria, saying:
“This recognition reflects our commitment to Nigeria’s manufacturing potential. At BAT Nigeria, we prioritise local content and export growth because we believe sustainable wealth creation begins with building strong, competitive, and proudly Nigerian manufacturing enterprises.”

BAT Nigeria’s exports reached 13 West and Central African countries as well as the United States, strengthening the nation’s non-oil export capacity and boosting foreign exchange inflows. Its Ibadan factory remains a leading manufacturing hub in West Africa, supporting Nigeria’s broader industrialisation efforts.

Beyond its economic contributions, BAT Nigeria supports approximately 350,000 direct and indirect jobs across its supply chain, including logistics, distribution, and supplier networks, highlighting its role in job creation and economic development.

MAN Director-General Segun Ajayi-Kadir emphasised that BAT Nigeria’s performance illustrates how multinational corporations can promote local manufacturing and advance the “Made in Nigeria” agenda, particularly as the country seeks deeper industrialisation and greater integration into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
