Rivers State Revokes 65,758 Sq Metres of Land for Waste Management Project

The Rivers State Government has revoked the rights of occupancy for a parcel of land in Igwuruta to pave the way for a waste disposal and recycling facility, citing overriding public interest.

A government notice, reviewed by The Guardian, states that the land, covering approximately 65,757.74 square metres, will be used for the implementation of the REWAMA project, aimed at improving waste management across the state.

The notice was issued in accordance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act, Cap L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, formally instructing all parties with interests in the land to surrender their rights to the state.

The document also provides detailed boundaries and coordinates of the affected property, which is situated in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The initiative is expected to enhance environmental management, promote public health, and support sustainable waste disposal and recycling in the state.
