The Bauchi State Government has directed the immediate closure of all schools across the state due to escalating security concerns.

The order affects every primary, secondary, and tertiary institution — including federal, state, and privately owned schools operating within Bauchi. The announcement was made on Sunday by Jalaludeen Usman, the Information and Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Education.

Usman explained that the decision followed extensive consultations and was prompted by what he described as “overwhelming security concerns threatening the safety of students, teachers, and school communities statewide.” He noted that although the action may cause inconvenience, the government places the highest priority on the safety of children and the need for a secure learning environment.

He appealed to parents, guardians, school owners, and the general public to remain calm, assuring them that the government is working closely with security agencies to address the situation and restore normal academic activities as soon as conditions allow. He also urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, stressing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining security.

The closure comes in the wake of recent student abductions in Kebbi and Niger states, which have intensified concerns across the northern region. On Friday, the Federal Government also ordered the temporary shutdown of 41 unity schools due to a spike in abduction cases nationwide.
