Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a notorious kidnap suspect in Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State.
The arrest, carried out under Operation Zafin Wuta, was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations. The suspect, Umar Mus Geyi, was apprehended on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu, Wukari, following credible intelligence.
The army noted that Geyi, who has long been on the security watchlist, is a key member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for multiple abductions in the region. Preliminary investigations reportedly link him to the 13 November 2025 kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala axis, who remains in captivity.
According to the statement, soldiers intercepted Geyi during a phone call in which he confirmed that the victim was still being held and demanded a ₦20 million ransom. Geyi is currently in military custody as authorities work to locate the victim and ensure a safe release.
Brigadier General Kingsley C. Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their swift and coordinated response. He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across Taraba State, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely, credible information.
