The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a significant increase in security measures around schools and churches across the state. The directive is part of a proactive strategy in response to recent threats targeting educational and religious institutions, including the mass abductions of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger States.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Command’s Spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said CP Orutugu instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to step up patrols, strengthen intelligence-led operations, and collaborate closely with community stakeholders to ensure coordinated and effective security.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent security breaches. Ikenga highlighted that the growing sense of community awareness and cooperation among Ndi Anambra has been commendable and essential to maintaining safety.
CP Orutugu reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property and emphasized that security strategies will continue to evolve to address emerging threats effectively.
