Brazilian football superstar Neymar Santos Jr.’s family has officially taken ownership of the brand of the late football legend Pelé, following an announcement by Neymar’s father and NR Sports owner on Tuesday.
The acquisition was revealed at the Pelé Museum in Santos, the coastal city where Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, became a global football icon. “We are proud to reach this milestone,” said Neymar Santos Sr., adding that the brand is “very strong” and that they aim to modernize its identity while honoring its history.
The financial details of the deal remain confidential, but Brazilian media reports suggest NR Sports paid approximately $18 million to acquire the rights from the previous owner, US-based Sport 10. Pelé, widely celebrated as one of the greatest footballers ever, led Brazil to three World Cup victories in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
Flavia Nascimento, Pelé’s daughter, attended the ceremony and expressed her joy, saying, “There are no words to describe the emotion… as his daughter, I feel honoured and happy.” NR Sports described the purchase as a “repatriation” of one of sport’s most iconic symbols, calling it a “decisive step towards preserving, expanding, and enriching the legacy of the King of Football.”
