Troops from the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have detained two herders accused of illegally entering community farmlands and destroying crops in Benue State.
The arrests followed reports that the individuals allowed their cattle to graze on farmland belonging to locals, leading to the destruction of crops and threatening the livelihoods of farmers.
The military said the operation was based on credible intelligence and aimed at curbing repeated farm invasions by herders in the region.
The suspects are now in custody, while the seized animals and other evidence are being processed to support further investigations and prosecutions.
Local residents have welcomed the intervention, viewing it as a necessary step to protect farmland and maintain peace between farming and herding communities in the state.
