Gov Radda Assents to Katsina’s N897.87bn 2026 Budget

Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, sustaining the original budget size of N897.86 billion as earlier presented to the House of Assembly.

The appropriation, themed Building Your Future III, was assented to on Wednesday at the Government House, Katsina. Governor Radda had laid the proposal before lawmakers on November 4, and the Assembly passed it after 21 days of scrutiny without altering the figures.

The fiscal plan allocates 18% to recurrent spending and 81% to capital expenditure, reflecting the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure and development.

Radda disclosed that inputs for the budget were drawn from town hall meetings conducted across the 361 wards in all 34 LGAs, noting that over 70,000 citizens participated, making submissions that were incorporated into the final document. He commended the Assembly for its commitment and for prioritising public interest over holidays to ensure timely passage.

He also encouraged legislators to strengthen oversight on budget implementation, stating that collaboration between the executive and legislative arms must remain steadfast. The governor noted that several bills submitted by the executive had already been passed, with more expected soon.

Responding, Speaker Hon. Nasiru Yahaya said members of the Assembly spent three weeks scrutinizing the proposal to ensure it aligned with the needs of citizens before approving it without adjustment. He expressed hope that its implementation would translate into tangible development and democratic dividends.

Katsina to Spend N14.05bn on Water Conservation Structures

In a separate development, the state government has approved the construction of N14.05 billion water conservation structures in Faskari Local Government Area, under the ACReSAL Programme aimed at combating desertification, climate change and land degradation.

Governor Radda handed over the project site to contractors on Tuesday at Sabon Layin Galadima, assuring that the initiative will enhance water security, agricultural productivity, livestock support and climate resilience in frontline communities. He added that water conservation remains key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and expanding access to safe water.
