Gov Eno presents N1.39tr ‘People’s Budget’ for Akwa Ibom in 2026

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has presented a N1.39 trillion budget estimate for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. The proposal, tagged “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” reflects the administration’s development priorities informed by feedback from community town hall meetings.

The budget represents a 16 per cent decrease (N260 billion) from the revised 2025 budget.

Under the proposed spending plan, N354.867 billion (25%) is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while N1.035 trillion (75%) is earmarked for capital projects, an indication of the government’s emphasis on infrastructural growth and economic development.

Key allocations include:

N387.5 billion for roads and infrastructure

N31.6 billion for education

N136.1 billion for health services

Governor Eno said the budget aligns with the state’s ARISE Agenda, prioritizing food security, mechanized agriculture, and increased income for rural communities. He credited the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu for boosting state revenue, adding that Akwa Ibom has continued to fund projects without borrowing.

> “I urge you to swiftly pass this budget so we can continue to work for our people,”
the Governor appealed to lawmakers.

He further revealed that 69,107 farmers have so far benefitted from the ongoing agricultural revolution, while 13,060 registered farmers have received processing equipment to boost productivity. He announced an upcoming palm tree crop revolution aimed at creating long-term wealth for rural households.

The 2026 fiscal plan includes N1.035 trillion in capital receipts and expenditure, with N791.978 billion projected from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and N243.155 billion from other sources. Detailed project breakdowns will be provided by the Commissioner for Budget.

Speaker of the House, Elder Udeme Otong, commended the proposal, describing it as a bold plan aligned with the ARISE development blueprint.
