Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has officially resigned from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

El-Rufai announced his departure in a letter dated November 26, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the SDP Ungwan Sarki Ward. He said the decision took immediate effect, stressing that his priority is to help build a stronger political platform capable of uniting Nigerians.

> “My focus remains on contributing to a unified democratic alternative for the Nigerian people,” he stated.

Shortly after his exit, the former governor visited the ADC office in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, where he received his membership card, formally completing his registration with the party.

ADC Reiterates Integrity, Anti-Corruption Principles

Earlier in the week, the ADC declared that only individuals with clear records of integrity and zero tolerance for corruption will be eligible to contest elections or hold government appointments under its platform.

Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, the party’s Deputy National Leader (North-West), El-Rufai, said the ADC is committed to fairness and internal democracy, particularly during primary elections.

> “Our party constitution has a distinct code of ethics. Only persons of proven integrity may stand for election or be appointed when the ADC wins power,” he explained.

El-Rufai also revealed that the party intends to widen political access for young Nigerians under 40 and persons with disabilities, noting that such inclusion will be central to its governance model.

He further disclosed that internal rifts previously affecting the Zamfara chapter had been resolved, adding that the party in the state is now “formidable, united and strong.”

The former governor received a warm welcome at the event and called on party members to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
