Several prominent civil society organisations have called on the Lagos State Government to immediately suspend further demolition exercises and obey existing court orders following the recent destruction of the Precious Seed community in Oworonshoki.
In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the groups expressed concern over what they described as the unlawful displacement of residents despite a valid court injunction restraining the government from proceeding with the action.
The organisations said more than 3,000 residents were affected by the demolition, leaving families without shelter and exposing vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, to hardship and health risks.
They criticised the state government’s decision to proceed with the demolition, describing it as a direct challenge to judicial authority and a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.
The groups urged the government to halt all further demolitions, engage meaningfully with affected communities, and provide urgent relief measures, including temporary accommodation, while a lawful and humane resolution is pursued.
