The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday summoned former Attorney‑General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), for questioning over a range of issues. Malami was taken into custody for the interrogation but was later granted bail after presenting two senior civil servants as sureties.

Prior to his appearance, Malami confirmed the EFCC’s invitation and expressed his readiness to cooperate fully, emphasizing his dedication to transparency and accountability in public service.

Although the specific allegations remain undisclosed, the summons is believed to concern controversial decisions and transactions during his tenure, including matters related to asset recoveries, contract approvals, and disposal of seized assets.

After his release, Malami described the questioning as constructive, assuring that the process would continue until “the truth relating to the fabricated allegations … unfold.”

The EFCC has not publicly outlined the claims against him, but analysts suggest the renewed scrutiny could reopen several high-profile cases from his period as Attorney‑General.
