The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of two decomposing bodies suspected to be those of kidnapped Cameroonian women in Anambra West Local Government Area.

The women were among three Cameroonian nationals declared missing in recent weeks, sparking suspicion of abduction. The development followed an ongoing police investigation that earlier led to the arrest of two suspects, 37-year-old Nonso Augustine Akpeh and 44-year-old Kingsley Akpeh. A third suspect, identified as Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu, remains at large.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the bodies were discovered during a coordinated operation by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, working with river divers and local volunteers along the Omambala River on Friday, November 28.

> “During the search, two decomposing female bodies were recovered, believed to be victims of the kidnapping,” Ikenga stated.

Family members later confirmed the bodies as those of Mrs. Bognou Alice and her niece, Miss Sandra. The remains have since been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, extended condolences to the families and directed intensified efforts to locate the third missing woman and apprehend the fleeing suspect. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to delivering justice and safeguarding residents.

Delta Police Arrest Serial Killer, Prison Escapee

In a separate development, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial killer and prison escapee, identified as Michael Ezenwa.

Ezenwa was arrested on October 24, 2025, in Agbor, while attempting to sell a stolen phone. Further checks identified the device as belonging to a woman later found murdered in her home. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing her during a robbery the previous day.

The police linked him to several previous violent crimes, including a 2020 rape and murder case involving a university student.

Delta Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and commended officers for swift action following a distress call.
