A civil society coalition has urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and its leader, Kayode Egbetokun, to launch a formal probe into serious allegations leveled against a member of the country’s House of Representatives. According to the group, the lawmaker stands accused of several offenses — and deserves thorough investigation rather than what they described as possible cover-ups.

The coalition maintained that the complaints brought forward are credible and serious enough to warrant the full weight of police scrutiny. They argued that failure to investigate promptly would damage public trust in the police and the broader democratic process.

In their statement, the group appealed directly to Egbetokun to treat the matter with urgency and objectivity, insisting that no one — including a member of the legislature — should be above the law. They said transparency and accountability should guide any handling of the matter, especially given the sensitivity of the charges.

The coalition’s call adds to growing demands for impartial enforcement of the law, following other recent criticisms of the police over handling of protests, arrests, and human-rights concerns.
