Abia LP Chairman Rejects Factional Congress, Praises Governor Otti’s Leadership

The Labour Party (LP) chairman in Abia State, Mr. Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti, has dismissed the recent party congress organized by a faction loyal to Mr. Julius Abure as illegitimate, describing it as an exercise in futility that did not follow due process.

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, Otti stressed that the Supreme Court had previously ruled on the rightful leadership of the Labour Party, adding that any action contrary to the judgment cannot be recognized. He revealed that he had approached the court to halt the congress, arguing that Abure lacked the legal authority to conduct such an exercise on behalf of the party.

Otti said, “I went to court to stop the congress because they did not follow due process. The Supreme Court gave a judgment in April regarding the rightful leadership of the party, and that judgment must be fully respected. Any action contrary to it is invalid.”

The LP chairman also praised Governor Alex Otti for his performance in office, stating that party members in Abia are satisfied with his leadership. He dismissed claims that the governor had abandoned the party and its supporters, highlighting the inclusiveness of his administration, which has integrated both past opponents and loyalists into governance. “When you have a good leader delivering on expectations, you should be happy. That is why we appreciate Governor Otti and will continue to support him,” he added.
