Opposition Criticism Over SSG’s Leave Shows Lack of Focus – Analyst

A commentator, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, has criticised some social media actors in Abia State for what he described as “baseless agitation” over the decision of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Kenneth Kalu (FCA), to take a leave of absence.

According to him, the controversy being stirred online reflects a lack of substantive issues from those he referred to as “wannabe content creators masquerading as opposition.”

Ukoha noted that it is standard practice globally for public officials to proceed on leave when necessary, adding that attempts to portray Prof. Kalu’s decision as suspicious are “deliberate distractions” aimed at shifting attention from the achievements of Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

He accused the opposition of repeatedly manufacturing controversies to remain relevant instead of engaging with the government’s policies and performance. He cited recent incidents, including the celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s absence at the commissioning of the Port Harcourt Road and other completed projects in Abia, as well as unverified claims that Governor Otti was denied access to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Facility.

Ukoha also dismissed reports that President Tinubu refused to meet with Governor Otti during a recent visit to the Presidential Villa, describing such narratives as contradictory and unfounded. He alleged that the same critics had also circulated claims linking the Governor to the dismissal of one of their key allies, despite reports that the individual had earlier been removed from office over tax-related issues.

He argued that these incidents demonstrate a pattern of misinformation driven by political desperation rather than genuine concern for governance.

According to him, Governor Otti’s administration remains focused on infrastructure development, economic reforms, and transparent governance — areas he said are already producing visible progress across the state.

He added that those who previously mismanaged the state’s resources “have become politically irrelevant” following the change in leadership.

Ukoha stressed that the government will not be distracted by online theatrics, noting that the administration is committed to sustaining ongoing reforms and delivering on its promises to the people of Abia.

“The people deserve leadership that prioritizes their welfare above political drama, and that is what Governor Otti is focused on,” he said.
