PDP Reorganises Leadership in Enugu, Delta and Rivers Amid Wave of APC Defections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its state executive councils in Enugu, Delta and Rivers States and replaced them with caretaker committees as part of efforts to stabilise the party following recent political setbacks.

The decision was taken by the party’s National Working Committee acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee, in line with provisions of the PDP Constitution. The caretaker committees are expected to manage party affairs in the affected states for a period not exceeding 90 days or until new executives are elected.

According to the party leadership, the committees will oversee the day-to-day administration of the PDP, ensure strict compliance with party rules, and reposition the party’s structures ahead of future congresses and elections.

The move comes in the wake of high-profile defections that saw the PDP lose control of the three states to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), creating leadership gaps within the party at the state level.

Barrister Steve Oruruo was appointed chairman of the caretaker committee in Enugu State, Professor Sylvester Monye will lead the Delta State committee, while Dr. Nname Robinson Ewor was named chairman of the Rivers State caretaker panel.

The PDP leadership urged the newly appointed committee members to work diligently to rebuild party unity, strengthen grassroots structures and prepare the party for upcoming political contests, particularly the 2027 general elections.
