Former Minister Ngige Faces Remand Over N2.2 Billion Fraud Case

Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has been remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations of contract fraud totaling N2.2 billion. He pleaded not guilty to eight counts of abuse of office and accepting gifts from contractors during his tenure.

Ngige’s legal team requested bail on health grounds, citing his previous detention and the need for medical attention. However, the prosecution opposed the request, describing the alleged offences as serious crimes that could carry lengthy prison sentences if proven.

The court has adjourned proceedings to allow further consideration of the bail application and to prepare for the trial. Both parties are expected to return to court for the next hearing.
