The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has debunked reports suggesting that he has declared interest in contesting the 2027 Abia State governorship election.

In a statement issued on December 14, 2025, and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the office described the report, allegedly published by an online platform, as false, misleading, and without factual basis.

The statement clarified that the Deputy Speaker has neither publicly nor privately indicated any intention to seek the Abia governorship in 2027, stressing that the claims are part of growing misinformation circulating online.

According to the release, Rt. Hon. Kalu remains focused on fulfilling his mandate as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency and on his duties as Deputy Speaker, prioritising legislative work and national service.

The office also called on the media organisation involved to withdraw the report and reminded journalists of the need to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and responsible reporting. Media practitioners were urged to verify information before publication to avoid misleading the public.

It added that any future political decisions concerning the Deputy Speaker would be officially announced through appropriate and recognised channels at the right time.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the office’s commitment to openness, factual communication, and constructive engagement with the media and the public.
