Obuzo Estate Hails Governor Otti & Hon. Chinasa for Power Boost, Pleads For Road Upgrade

Residents of Obuzo Housing Estate, tucked along the Afara‑Okwulaga stretch in Umuahia North, are singing praises after the Abia State government and their local lawmaker stepped in to solve a long‑standing power nightmare. Chairman Mazi High Chief Obaa Nnamela JP says the once‑sporadic electricity—sometimes only a few hours a week—has gotten a serious upgrade thanks to a brand‑new 300KVA transformer delivered by Hon. Chinasa Anthony Abiola through the Ministry of Power. “We were invited to the ministry on Dec 10‑11, got the transformer, and we’re hopeful it’ll be switched on before year‑end,” Nnamela added, thanking Governor Alex Otti for finally showing up after more than a decade of neglect.

The estate, home to over 170 buildings and a growing community, still feels the sting of missing roads. Nnamela highlighted the strategic Obuzo‑Osah‑Ohia corridor, which would link schools, colleges and the Port Harcourt‑Aba‑Umuahia Expressway, easing traffic for three LGAs and offering an alternative route for Aba‑bound traffic. “If this road is built, it’ll take pressure off the main highways and make life easier for folks heading north or south of Umuahia,” he explained.

Resident Amarachi Nwakamwa, a medical‑awareness scientist, echoed the call, noting that the current Mission Hill Road is already bursting at the seams, especially during the festive season. He said the new road would not only untangle congestion but also give farmers a smoother path to market their produce, boosting the local economy. “The transformer issue is finally settled—prompt, pragmatic, and visionary,” Nwakamwa remarked, extending gratitude to both Otti and Hon. Chinasa.

The estate leadership also asked the state to set up polling units within the community, so voters won’t have to trek far to cast their ballots. They remain optimistic that Otti’s infrastructure push will soon extend to the Obuzo‑Osah‑Ohia road, delivering the inclusive development the area deserves.
