Former President Muhammadu Buhari was reportedly very aware of public disappointment in his government’s performance, particularly on insecurity and economic issues, his daughter Halima Buhari has said. Speaking in Abuja at the launch of a new book on political communication, Halima offered a personal glimpse into her father’s mindset during his time in office, describing him as someone who felt deeply the weight of leadership and the gap between expectations and reality.

According to Halima, Buhari understood that many Nigerians felt that more should have been done in key areas of governance, and that he listened to both criticism and praise. She emphasised that leadership in a nation as diverse and complex as Nigeria involved difficult choices, trade‑offs and tough compromises. Her comments came amidst ongoing debates about Buhari’s legacy, with Halima noting that different perspectives on his administration will continue to emerge.

Halima also said that to his family he was simply “Baba,” a reminder of his human side beyond his public role, and affirmed that the book being presented added an insider viewpoint rather than a definitive judgment on his years in public office.
