A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has upheld the bail previously granted to former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, in his ongoing case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a ruling on Thursday, the trial judge agreed that Ngige should remain on administrative bail but introduced more stringent conditions for his surety. The court directed that the surety must be a senior civil servant at the director level or above, employed by the Federal Government, and must own a landed property.

The surety is also required to deposit the title documents of the property and their travel documents with the court as part of the bail conditions, which remain in place while Ngige works to retrieve his own international passport that was previously surrendered.

Ngige had earlier been granted administrative bail by the EFCC on self-recognition, subject to submitting his travel documents and securing one surety. The court’s new directive tightens these conditions as the legal process continues.

The matter remains under judicial consideration with further proceedings expected in the coming weeks.
