Six former governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), were among participants at the ruling party’s National Caucus meeting held on Thursday night at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
The defectors, Governors Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) and Agbu Kefas (Taraba), attended their first high-level APC caucus meeting since joining the party.
Also present were former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, and former Senate President Ken Nnamani, all of whom were formerly prominent members of the PDP before crossing over to the APC.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led top government officials at the meeting, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The meeting was also attended by serving and former APC governors, members of the party’s National Working Committee and other key stakeholders. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present as observers.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the venue at about 7:38 p.m.
