An Abia State High Court has issued an interim order restraining a former Commissioner for Information in the state, Barrister Eze Chikamnayo, from making or publishing further statements against Governor Alex Otti, pending the determination of a N100 billion defamation suit.

The order followed an application filed by Governor Otti, who is seeking redress over what he described as defamatory and damaging publications allegedly made by the former commissioner through social media and other platforms.

In granting the order, the court directed Barr. Chikamnayo to refrain from posting, sharing, or circulating any material concerning the governor that could be considered libelous, prejudicial, or capable of undermining the ongoing proceedings.

The court also warned that any violation of the order would attract sanctions in line with the law. The case was subsequently adjourned to a later date for hearing on the substantive suit.

The N100bn claim is one of the most high-profile defamation cases in Abia State in recent times and is expected to draw significant public attention as it progresses through the courts.
