Otti Explains Visit to Nnamdi Kanu, Cites Peace and Dialogue

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has shed light on his recent visit to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as a deliberate step toward fostering peace and constructive engagement.

The governor spoke on Friday at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Umuahia, where he disclosed that conversations concerning Kanu’s case had begun more than two years ago at the highest decision-making levels.

According to Otti, his decision to visit the detained IPOB leader was informed by a sense of duty, noting that Kanu hails from Abia State, specifically Umuahia North Local Government Area.

He stressed that unresolved issues cannot be addressed through silence, insisting that dialogue remains essential to conflict resolution and national stability.

“There are solutions to every problem, and ignoring them does not make them disappear,” the governor said, underscoring his belief in engagement over avoidance.

While acknowledging the role of the judiciary, Otti pointed out that avenues for administrative intervention, dialogue, and peace-building still exist outside the courtroom.

He also reiterated his firm opposition to Nigeria’s breakup and distanced himself from violent methods of agitation, recalling his past criticism of military operations such as Operation Python Dance.

The governor concluded by stating that his actions were motivated by conscience, leadership responsibility, and the desire for enduring peace, rather than any political consideration.
