Abians living in Oyo State have praised Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for approving a free transportation initiative that enabled many residents to travel home for the 2025 Christmas celebrations despite prevailing economic challenges.

The commendation was led by the President of the Ohafia Improvement Union (OIU), Ibadan Branch, Mazi Paul Kalu, who said the governor’s gesture brought relief and happiness to families that had earlier feared they would miss the festive season due to high transport costs.

Mazi Kalu explained that the initiative, carried out on December 23, 2025, involved the deployment of four large buses that conveyed Abians at no cost from Ibadan to Aba and Umuahia. He described the move as timely and compassionate, reflecting the governor’s commitment to people-oriented governance.

“On behalf of Abians in Ibadan, under the leadership of Mazi Jude Ekwerendu and the executive members, we sincerely appreciate Governor Alex Otti. Many people had given up hope of returning home for Christmas, but this intervention restored that hope,” he said.

According to him, the initiative went beyond easing transportation difficulties, as it also revived the spirit of unity and family bonding that defines the Christmas season, particularly for those living outside the state.

Mazi Kalu added that Abians in the diaspora have continued to receive encouraging reports about the transformation taking place in Abia State, noting that the free transport programme further strengthened their confidence in the current administration.

Abians in Oyo State also offered prayers for the governor and reaffirmed their support for his leadership, describing the initiative as a strong demonstration of responsive governance and genuine concern for the welfare of Abians wherever they reside.
