The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division, on Monday granted interim bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in a case instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Malami, who appeared before the court following charges filed by the anti-graft agency, was admitted to bail under conditions set by the presiding judge. The court ruled that the former minister should enjoy his liberty pending further proceedings in the matter.
In granting the bail, the court noted that the charges against the former AGF were yet to be fully determined and that the defendant was entitled to bail as provided by law. The judge, however, warned that Malami must make himself available for trial and comply strictly with all bail conditions.
The court subsequently adjourned the case to January 5 for the commencement of substantive hearing. The EFCC is expected to continue its prosecution on the adjourned date, while the defence prepares its response to the allegations.
