Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that American forces carried out airstrikes targeting Islamic State (ISIS) fighters operating in northwest Nigeria. According to Trump, the military operation was executed under his directive and was aimed at dismantling terrorist camps in the region.

The airstrikes reportedly focused on ISIS-linked elements in parts of Sokoto State, following intelligence assessments that identified the area as a key operational base for the group. The operation was said to be coordinated with Nigerian security authorities as part of broader counterterrorism cooperation.

Trump stated that the strikes were intended to curb ongoing attacks by extremist groups that have continued to threaten civilian populations. He described the action as decisive and warned that the United States would continue to pursue terrorist organizations wherever they attempt to establish a foothold.

Nigerian authorities have acknowledged ongoing collaboration with international partners in addressing security challenges, particularly in combating insurgency and transnational terrorism. Officials maintain that such cooperation respects Nigeria’s sovereignty while strengthening efforts to restore peace.

The development highlights growing international concern over the expansion of ISIS-linked activities in parts of West Africa and underscores renewed military pressure on extremist groups destabilizing the region.
