Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, says the 2027 elections will be smoother than previous ones because his administration now has tangible achievements to showcase after 30 months in office, with even more still in progress.
Governor Otti stated this on Friday, December 26, during the 2025 Aro Day Celebration held at the Aro Civic Centre in Arochukwu Local Government Area. He arrived at the event in the company of his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, and the Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, Ph.D., his longtime friend and ally.
In his address, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of prioritizing governance over politics once elections are concluded.
> “Political parties are platforms for elections. After elections, governance must take the front seat. Anytime this is reversed, problems arise,” he said.
The Governor thanked Abians for appreciating the progress recorded so far, stressing that his administration is only a vessel God is using to transform the state.
> “This is just 30 months. You haven’t seen anything yet. 2027 is still far, and we are focused on delivering our four-year mandate,” he added.
“In 2023 we sold promises; in 2027 we will have results to point at. That is why I am confident it will be smoother.”
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who is in Abia for the Christmas holidays and serves as Co-Chair of the Abia Global Economic Advisory Council, reaffirmed his admiration for Governor Otti’s performance.
> “I congratulate the people of Abia for electing a leader who has shown in just two years what good governance truly means. Abia people are not the only ones proud of him; many of us across the country are,” he said.
Also speaking, former World Bank Vice President and former SEC Director-General, Prof. Arunma Oteh, Co-Chair of the Economic Advisory Council, described Governor Otti as “one in a million,” noting that he has achieved in two years what others could not do in decades.
The Eze Aro, His Eminence Eze Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, commended the Governor for restoring hope to Abians and transforming the narrative of Arochukwu, particularly in infrastructure and accessibility.
Prominent personalities at the event, including Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa; renowned industrialist, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, OFR; President General of Nzuko Aro Worldwide, Mazi Dozie Udensi; Chairman of the occasion, Mazi Victor Ike Okoronkwo; and other dignitaries, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for breaking long-standing development barriers and providing multiple access roads into Arochukwu.
They described him as an exceptional leader and a long-awaited answer to the prayers of the people.
The ceremony also featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in honour of past heroes of the Aro Kingdom whose sacrifices laid the foundation for today’s celebration.
