Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has signed the ₦1.016 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, promising a sustained drive for accelerated development across the state.
The Governor signed the budget on Monday at Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, shortly after its passage by the Abia State House of Assembly. He assured that his administration would implement the budget faithfully while maintaining transparency and accountability.
Describing the legislative process as a clear demonstration of democratic collaboration, Governor Otti commended the House of Assembly for its diligent scrutiny of the document. He noted that the time spent reviewing the bill reflected lawmakers’ seriousness and commitment to the interests of Abians.
He said the budget retained its original size of ₦1.016 trillion, maintaining the capital and recurrent expenditure ratios to reflect his administration’s development priorities. According to him, the fiscal plan aligns with his government’s vision of empowering citizens by creating an enabling environment for economic activities while prioritizing investments in social infrastructure such as health, education, environmental sustainability, roads, and other key projects.
Governor Otti also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline, stating that any necessary adjustments would be taken back to the Assembly for proper legislative action.
Earlier, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, described the 2026 budget as a “Project of Acceleration and New Possibilities.” He said Abia, having overcome years of infrastructural decline, is now on a steady path to transformation and assured that the Assembly would continue to support the Governor’s development agenda.
He added that the remarkable progress witnessed in the state is already drawing attention beyond Nigeria, stressing that lawmakers would not allow any setback in Abia’s transformation drive.
The 2026 budget is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms and fast-track socio-economic growth across the state.
