Six NTA Staff Die in Gombe Road Crash

Gombe State has been plunged into fresh mourning following another tragic road accident that claimed the lives of six staff members of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Gombe, on Monday.

The incident occurred just days after seven residents of Lawanti village in Akko Local Government Area lost their lives in a separate accident while travelling to a wedding in Borno State.

The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahya, who hails from Gombe State, announced the latest tragedy in a post on Facebook, describing it as “another sad day for the journalism profession in Gombe State.”

According to reports, the NTA staff were involved in the fatal crash along the Billiri–Kumo Road while returning from the wedding ceremony of a colleague held in Billiri Local Government Area.

A staff member of the station confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as:

Several others sustained injuries in the crash. Those injured include the station’s Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Akila, as well as Steven Doddo, Nina, and Jonathan Bara. They are currently receiving treatment at various health facilities in the state.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the media community and heightened concerns over increasing road accidents in Gombe State.
