The global boxing community remains in shock following Monday’s road accident involving former World Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. As relief continues to trail Joshua’s survival, tributes have poured in for two members of his team who tragically lost their lives in the crash.

The accident occurred around the Makun axis of the busy highway in Ogun State. Five people were reportedly inside the Lexus SUV when it struck a stationary truck shortly after 11:00 a.m. Images released by officials showed the badly damaged vehicle, its doors torn off and roof crushed, while a Mitsubishi believed to be part of the convoy was seen nearby with minimal damage.

The deceased were identified as Latif, popularly known as “Latz” or “Healthy_Mindset” on Instagram, and Sina Evovle. Both men were not only part of Joshua’s training crew but were also close friends of the boxing champion.

Sina, who was reportedly from Syria, served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach and had been actively involved in preparing him for his anticipated bout with Jake Paul. He expressed excitement upon arriving Nigeria earlier on Monday and had posted videos shortly before the tragic incident.

Latif, a devout Muslim and fitness trainer with more than 11,000 followers on Instagram, was known to be influential within the boxing and fitness community. While his full nationality details remain unconfirmed, his social media pages have been flooded with condolence messages since news of his death broke.

Joshua, who was seated behind the driver at the time of the crash, survived with minor injuries and was later seen speaking with emergency officials. The 36-year-old boxing star was said to be visiting family in Nigeria and had shared a video of himself playing table tennis just hours before the accident.

Family members, fans, and sporting figures across the world have continued to express gratitude for Joshua’s survival while mourning the loss of the two trainers. Tributes and prayers continue to pour in as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
