Dr. Nname Ewor, a factional Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading party members and abandoning the PDP during the height of the state’s political crisis.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ewor claimed that the governor falsely assured PDP stakeholders that he could wrest political control from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to him, party members were instead fed with propaganda and unfulfilled promises, only for Fubara to later defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025.
Ewor alleged that the governor repeatedly boasted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would intervene on his behalf, compel members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to support his administration, and force Wike to work for his reelection in 2027. He said such claims diverted attention from efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.
He further demanded that Governor Fubara make public all details of peace agreements reportedly brokered by President Tinubu before the lifting of the State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State earlier in 2025. Ewor insisted that Rivers people deserved full disclosure, noting that the agreements directly affect governance and public interest.
Recalling the escalation of the crisis, Ewor said the conflict between the executive and the legislature deteriorated into violence, including the bombing of the State Assembly complex, which prompted presidential intervention. He added that while an earlier peace pact was documented, the most recent agreement was neither written nor disclosed to the public.
Ewor also criticized the governor’s conduct during the PDP National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025, where the Rivers State party leadership was dissolved. He accused Fubara of directing delegates to attend the convention while he absented himself, describing the move as inconsistent and questionable.
Following the convention, the PDP National Working Committee set up a caretaker committee for the state, chaired by Ewor and made up of senior party figures. He noted that although the outcome of the convention is under litigation, the caretaker committee remains in place.
He further referenced recent remarks by Wike during his tour of local government areas, where the minister reportedly accused Governor Fubara of failing to honor terms of a presidential peace deal, including agreements on appointments and political commitments.
Ewor concluded by insisting on transparency and accountability from the governor, stressing that Rivers residents have a right to know all agreements reached in their name. He also declared his support for the FCT Minister and President Tinubu’s reelection.
