Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, alongside the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, led other distinguished Abians to the 2026 Ofuji All-White New Year Party, a colourful celebration held to welcome the new year in thanksgiving, elegance and unity.

The glamorous event took place at the Ofuji Arena in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area, attracting political leaders, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and social elites who gathered to celebrate the blessings of a new year and pray for peace, progress, and prosperity in Abia State and Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists, the convener of the maiden Ofuji All-White/Fireworks and New Year Thanksgiving Party, Dr Chima Anyaso, explained that the event—previously held on December 31—was shifted to January 1 to make it more symbolic and impactful. According to him, the change allows the gathering to serve both as a New Year celebration and a thanksgiving service.

“The essence of this event is to thank God for the new year,” he said. “We brought it forward to January 1 so it can double as a New Year celebration and thanksgiving, and also bring people together to appreciate God for what we believe will be a wonderful 2026.”

Anyaso noted that the event will now become an annual tradition, creating a platform for Abians to collectively thank God for life and new opportunities.

Speaking on expectations for 2026, he described the year as significant, especially as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. He, however, stressed that beyond politics, Nigerians desire better governance, improved welfare, and enhanced living conditions.

On taxation, Anyaso expressed support for the current tax reforms but called for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, emphasizing that taxpayers deserve visible results.

Addressing security concerns in the South-East, he dismissed exaggerated social media reports, noting that the situation is relatively calm. He, however, encouraged residents and visitors to remain vigilant and security conscious throughout the festive season.

The Ofuji All-White/Fireworks and New Year Thanksgiving Party was marked by celebration and empowerment, as one hundred Bende indigenes benefited from a ₦50 million support initiative, adding meaning to the festive gathering.

The event concluded on a joyous and peaceful note, heralding hope and renewed unity for the year ahead.
