Canadian immigration authorities have deported 366 Nigerian citizens within the first ten months of 2025, as the country tightens enforcement of its immigration laws. At the same time, 974 other Nigerians are currently facing removal, with their deportation processes already in progress.
Official immigration figures place Nigeria among the countries most affected by Canada’s latest deportation exercise. The country ranks ninth in total deportations and fifth in the number of nationals awaiting removal, highlighting the scale of the action.
The latest figures represent a rise compared to recent years when deportations involving Nigerians declined and temporarily disappeared from Canada’s priority list. The renewed surge signals a shift toward stricter immigration control.
Canada’s overall deportation numbers have climbed to their highest level in more than ten years, with hundreds of foreign nationals removed every week. Most of those affected are individuals whose asylum applications were rejected, while others were deported for criminal offences, security reasons, false documentation, or immigration violations.
Immigration rules in Canada allow authorities to issue removal orders that may involve immediate departure deadlines, long-term entry bans, or permanent exclusion, except in cases where special permission is granted.
