Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that he has no plans to withdraw from the race.

Atiku said calls for him to step down are misguided, stressing that the ADC is committed to a democratic process that allows all qualified aspirants to compete freely for the party’s presidential ticket. He described suggestions that he should withdraw as undemocratic and contrary to the interests of Nigerians.

The former vice president argued that if any political figure should consider stepping aside in the national interest, it should be President Bola Tinubu, whose administration he claimed has worsened economic hardship and governance challenges across the country.

He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of working to weaken opposition parties, adding that the ADC provides a credible platform for Nigerians seeking an alternative leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku reaffirmed his confidence in the ADC’s internal processes, noting that the party remains committed to transparency and fairness in selecting its presidential candidate.

His comments come amid increasing political alignments and strategic positioning by key political actors as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
