The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to take a clear diplomatic position on the unfolding crisis in Venezuela, warning that Nigeria’s silence has weakened its standing in global affairs.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the government’s lack of response as embarrassing and unworthy of a country that has historically played a leading role in African and international diplomacy.
The party’s reaction follows recent international developments in Venezuela that have sparked widespread debate over sovereignty, democracy, and international law. According to the ADC, several countries have openly expressed their positions on the matter, while Nigeria has remained noticeably absent from global discussions.
The opposition party argued that Nigeria’s silence signals a decline in its influence and moral authority on the world stage. It warned that continued reluctance to engage on critical international issues could further erode the country’s reputation as a respected voice in global affairs.
The ADC also accused the current administration of lacking confidence and strategic direction in foreign policy, urging the government to reclaim Nigeria’s leadership role by speaking out on major global developments.
The party’s remarks add to growing criticism from opposition figures who believe Nigeria’s diplomatic presence has diminished under the current administration.
