Tinubu Faces Backlash Over Huge Foreign Travel Spending Amid Economic Strains

President Bola Tinubu is facing public criticism after reports revealed that his administration spent approximately ₦61 billion on foreign trips. Many Nigerians have expressed concern that such spending is excessive, especially given the country’s current economic challenges, including inflation and unemployment.

Opposition leaders and civil society groups have described the frequent international travels as “junketing,” arguing that these funds could be better used for pressing domestic needs such as healthcare, education, and security.

Supporters of the president, however, maintain that the trips are necessary for diplomacy and attracting foreign investment, asserting that these engagements strengthen Nigeria’s global relations and could bring long-term benefits to the country.

The debate over the necessity and cost of these foreign trips continues to spark discussions on accountability and the proper allocation of national resources.
