Chief Mascot Kalu Demands Answers from Abia Government Over Leadership and Policy Concerns

Umuahia, Abia State – Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, a prominent opposition figure and governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, has publicly challenged the Abia State Government to provide clear explanations on key issues affecting governance, service delivery and compliance with statutory mandates.

Speaking at a recent political gathering in Umuahia, Chief Mascot Kalu pressed Governor Alex Otti’s administration to account for what he described as “shortcomings in policy implementation and a lack of meaningful engagement with the people of Abia.” He called on the state government to be transparent about its actions and to justify its approach on matters that directly affect ordinary citizens.

Kalu’s demands come amid heightened political activity in the state as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections. He referenced concerns over compliance with Supreme Court judgments on local government autonomy, urging the Abia Government to uphold the rule of law and ensure that local councils operate independently as required by the constitution.

The opposition leader also questioned the performance of the current administration on infrastructure and community development, suggesting that more accountability is needed to build confidence among Abians who are eager to see tangible results. His remarks reflect broader political tensions, with the All Progressives Congress pushing to unseat Mr Otti’s Labour Party in the next election cycle.

Responding to similar criticisms, the Abia State Government has in recent days denied allegations of interference in legal processes, including claims that Governor Otti confronted federal law enforcement officials in Aba, calling the reports false and politically motivated.

As the political season unfolds, Chief Mascot Kalu’s call for answers underscores the growing demand for transparency and accountability from the Abia Government, with stakeholders on all sides watching closely how the administration addresses these mounting questions.
